The OMM Mixed Tournament was held on 4/5 October, when 96 bowlers – 24 teams - competed in the disciplines of Rinks, Mixed Pairs, Triples and Singles.  Again this year two teams from the Costa Del Sol made the trip to take part in the competition, from Benalmadena and Benavista, with the four local clubs.  The tournament was sponsored by Mike & Heather Beare from OMM and our grateful thanks go to them.

The competition was won by Cabrera team, (L/R Brian Marsh / Doreen Hall / Pat Marsh / Dave Jenkins).  Second place went to Indalo team (L/R Don Kitchin / Maggi Holmes / Jan Johnson / Gerald Bickers).  Third place went to Indalo team (L/R Ray Haynes / Mo DeBoer / Margaret Maltby / Alan DeBoer) with Cabrera team (L/R Derek Hawkins / Mia Woods / Sandra & Peter Marriott) taking fourth place.

Mike of OMM also presented the Unsung Heroes award to the Cabrera Greenkeeper Ken Lee (unfortunately Ken was not there to receive the award) and the Greens team for all their hard work in keeping the greens in tip-top condition (Tony Millington / Brian Marsh / Denis Stoyles / Derek Hawkins / Cyril Heath, L/R Front Row – John Sephton / David Schofield / Carol Lee / Trevor Young / Dave Jenkins).

The following week we held the Hong Kong Pairs competition competing for the Brindle Bowl, played over 3 days.  The two pairs through to the final to be held in March 2010 are Dave Jenkins / Janey Leggate and Ian Brewster / Derek Webb.

Finally, Dames in Spain held their Open Day at Cabrera Club on Monday 28 October when they made over €1,000 for charity.  We were delighted that 48 male and female bowlers turned up for the day and they played a mixture of

rinks games.  The Dames provided a lovely ploughman’s lunch with plenty of desserts as well as numerous stalls.  The winning team took away the trophy and gifts of bottles and chocolates.  Prizes were presented by Dames Chairperson Gail Creasey.
