HNC in Graphic Design would be appropriate, so Richard registered at night school.
Whilst working as a Drayman, in central London during the day, at night all attention was put into college tutorials. After two years the HNC was achieved as a foundation for a Degree - however, as a full time student (aged 25), rent, bills and expenses could not be paid, so it was to be a learn on the job routine for Richard.
During this time the learning continued through books and numerous visits to galleries across the South Bank.
Over this period of time, Richard got to grips with industry standard software and completed many design and photography briefs in his spare time.
Many photography and design jobs were applied for, all of which were fruitless. Richard recalls working as a network installation engineer on contract at Magic FM and showing two graphic designers how to use the software - goes to show the paperwork (degree) doesn’t´t count for everything.
When Richard moved to Mojácar eight years ago, he was given the opportunity to work for one of the local papers, putting to good use the knowledge acquired over the years - this led to another opportunity, being involved in production of a new glossy magazine in the area, which further educated his knowledge in the design business.
From there a position at a design agency was put his way, where he was involved with a number of design briefs, all of which were met in good time, whilst, once again, he was working bar work jobs at the same time (never turn down
Today with the global economy at an all time new, it appears that many businesses are stretching themselves further to online trading, with which Richard has embraced too. Although his work has been primarily print orientated and now faces the prospect of a new medium, which is part and parcel of any design career... the Internet.
Richard has recently designed a website displaying his work online - although self admittedly, it is a skeleton site - it needs to be built on with a little finesse, but it does exactly what it says on the tin, and will continue to be upgraded with Flash animation and updated work being uploaded daily.

work is his reckoning - especially in another country).
When the recession hit last year, times were tough for many people, Richard was no exception, however, a phone call from a previous contact had put my name forward to a businessman who wanted to produce a newspaper.
I made contact and within two weeks a brand new paper had been put together and hit the streets running.
